Dehradun, May 15: The Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand has witnessed a massive surge in pilgrim footfall this year, with more than 12 lakh devotees completing the sacred journey in less than a month, according to official data.
The annual pilgrimage, which covers the four revered shrines — Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath — has seen a steady flow of visitors since its commencement, reflecting strong religious enthusiasm and improved travel arrangements.
Officials said the pace of pilgrim movement this year has been significantly higher compared to previous seasons, supported by better road connectivity, streamlined registration systems, and enhanced crowd management measures.
The Char Dham Yatra, considered one of Hinduism’s most important pilgrimages, attracts devotees from across India and abroad who undertake the journey seeking spiritual merit and blessings.
Authorities have deployed extensive arrangements for safety, medical assistance, and traffic regulation along the pilgrimage routes, especially in high-altitude and sensitive zones prone to weather disruptions.
Despite challenging terrain and variable weather conditions, the yatra has continued smoothly, with pilgrims reporting improved facilities at key transit points and shrine locations.
Officials added that the administration remains alert to ensure a safe and orderly pilgrimage season as the footfall is expected to rise further in the coming weeks.
