Buddh Jyoti Foundation Combats Malnutrition, Bringing Nutrition to India’s Undernourished

"Buddh Jyoti Foundation Takes Action Against Malnutrition, Supporting Undernourished Families in India"
New Delhi, India  December 14, 2024: Malnutrition among children continues to be a critical challenge in India, fueled by poverty, systemic inequalities, and environmental factors. In the 2023 Global Hunger Index, India ranked 111th out of 125 countries, highlighting the urgency to address undernutrition and child wasting, which stands at a global high of 18.7%.

Recognizing the gravity of this issue, the Buddh Jyoti Foundation (BJF), a leading non-governmental organization established in 2010, is making significant strides in tackling malnutrition through targeted initiatives that directly benefit vulnerable populations.

Bringing Nutrition to the Plate

BJF provides two nutritious meals daily to underprivileged children in New Delhi, ensuring they receive essential vitamins and nutrients for healthy growth. In addition, the foundation distributes fresh and dry fruits to economically vulnerable families, promoting balanced diets amidst financial hardships.

Kapeel Barsaiyan, President of BJF, underscores the long-term implications of malnutrition:

“Malnutrition weakens immune systems, increases susceptibility to diseases, and impairs cognitive development, adversely affecting academic performance and future opportunities.”

Collaborative Efforts Are Key

While government initiatives like POSHAN Abhiyaan, Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), and the Mid-Day Meal Scheme have made progress, BJF emphasizes the need for multi-stakeholder collaboration.

Kshipra Simon, Secretary General of BJF, elaborates:

“Comprehensive strategies addressing poverty, education, healthcare, and sanitation are crucial. Collaborative efforts between policymakers, NGOs, and communities are essential to ensure a well-nourished and healthier future for India’s children.”

Expanding Care to All Living Beings

Extending its ethos of care, BJF has also adopted cows, ensuring they are well-fed as part of its community responsibility.

A Call to Action

BJF invites individuals, corporations, and policymakers to join hands in the fight against malnutrition. True progress lies in ensuring the well-being of every member of society. Together, we can pave the way for a healthier, well-nourished, and thriving India.
