Mitra Café Sees 6x Growth in Orders with Zomato Support

Kolkata, Mar 5: Mitra Café, one of Kolkata’s iconic 115-year-old culinary landmarks, has witnessed a 6X growth in yearly order volumes since onboarding on Zomato in 2020. The café continues to preserve its rich cultural heritage and timeless flavours, playing an enduring role in the city’s food culture.

Founded in 1910 by Shri Sushil Roy, Mitra Café traces its origins to a meaningful friendship with Ganesh Mitra, after whom the café was named. The tribute has endured for over a century, with the name continuing to hold significance even today. Over the decades, the café has evolved into a cherished gathering space for younger generations, while many of its most loyal patrons are in their 70s and 80s. Today, Mitra Café is led by Tapash Roy, who continues to carry the legacy forward.

Known for its signature dishes like Brain Chop,Fish Kabiraji and Gondhoraj Lime Chicken Pakoras, the brand has now expanded its offerings and evolved into a multi-cuisine destination. Mitra Café remains deeply rooted in the city’s culinary identity. With over a century of heritage, the brand continues to bring its timeless flavours to customers, staying true to the recipes and traditions that have defined it for generations.

Since onboarding on Zomato, the brand has:

  • Achieved a 6x growth in yearly order volumes over five years, increasing from over 23,280 in 2020 to over 1,42,580 in 2025
  • Improved menu hygiene and reduced kitchen preparation time while consistently maintaining food quality
  • Participated in brand campaigns and invested in advertisements to drive visibility and sales growth

To help small restaurants scale quickly, Zomato has introduced several initiatives in recent years. These include a DIY onboarding tool that helps restaurants get listed on the platform in just 15 minutes, and access to the Restaurant Services Hub, a curated marketplace of verified vendors offering licensing, staffing, and hygiene audit services. In select cities, new restaurants also benefit from 0% commission for the first 30 days, along with credits for ads and Hyperpure services. As of Q3 FY26, Zomato has an average of 336,000 monthly active food ordering and delivery restaurant partners on the platform.
