Bangalore (Karnataka) [India], October 28: Dr Sandeep Nayak, world-acclaimed expert in robotic and minimally invasive cancer surgery, has been appointed Chairman – Oncology Services (Karnataka) and Executive Director – Surgical Oncology and Robotic Surgery at KIMS Hospitals, Bangalore.
KIMS Hospitals is among India’s largest integrated healthcare networks. It operates over 25 hospitals with 8,300 beds across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Kerala, and Karnataka. The network delivers multi-disciplinary tertiary and quaternary care at accessible costs.
In his new leadership role, Dr Sandeep Nayak will spearhead the entire oncology vertical for KIMS Hospitals in Karnataka. He will oversee the integration of surgical, medical, and radiation oncology. He plans to advance robotic and minimally invasive cancer surgery. He will also drive innovation in patient-centred, data-driven care.
Speaking on his new role, Dr Sandeep Nayak says, “My position at KIMS Hospital presents a pivotal opportunity in my mission to make precision-driven, compassionate cancer care accessible to every patient. I am committed to advancing KIMS’s dedication to clinical excellence and ethical practice. I look forward to redefining oncology leadership through meaningful collaboration and innovative approaches.”
His earlier professional stint included serving as Senior Director – Surgical Oncology, Robotic & Laparoscopic Oncosurgery at Fortis Hospitals (2017–2025). There, he transformed a single-room oncology unit into a comprehensive, multidisciplinary department.
He has pioneered two precise surgical techniques, RABIT (Robotic-Assisted Breast-Axillo Insufflated Thyroidectomy), a groundbreaking scarless thyroid surgery technique performed through the underarm using robotic precision. This method minimises post-surgical discomfort and offers patients superior cosmetic and functional outcomes by eliminating neck scars.
The second procedure is the RIA (Robotic Infraclavicular Approach), a pioneering technique that enables the oncosurgeon to access complex areas through the infraclavicular region to treat patients diagnosed with head, neck, and thyroid cancers. The RIA approach enhances surgical visibility and safety while preserving natural aesthetics and reducing recovery time.
Also, he has initiated Dr NB fellowships to train numerous oncology specialists across India, strengthening the field’s future.
He is recognised for his expertise in treating head and neck, gastrointestinal, breast, thyroid, and lung cancers. He has published over 25 studies in oncology research. His work has earned the K Subhramanyam Robotic Innovation Award, recognition in Forbes India and Outlook Business, and the Excellence in Oncology Award.
Dr Nayak has also founded MACS Clinic (Minimal Access Cancer Surgery) and Samrohana Cancer Foundation, both focused on ethical, high-precision cancer care, prevention, early detection, and rehabilitation. Beyond clinical practice, he is deeply committed to cancer prevention, education, and mentorship, shaping the future of oncology. This platform provides insights into his pioneering techniques, exceptional patient care, and unwavering dedication to advancing cancer treatment.
On assuming the new roles at KIMS Hospital, Dr. Nayak states, “Oncology innovation is about advancing medical technology to improve patient outcomes.” He further states, “At KIMS, our goal is to integrate robotics, leading-edge research, and compassion to deliver seamless cancer care and treatment.”
