Odisha Takes ‘Vocal for Local’ to National and Global Markets Through ORMAS

Bhubaneswar: Under the leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, Odisha is stepping up efforts to promote its rural products, traditional craftsmanship and local enterprises in wider national and international markets, reinforcing the spirit of ‘Vocal for Local’.

A major step in this direction is the participation of the Odisha Rural Development and Marketing Society (ORMAS) in the Bharatiya Vyapar Mahotsav 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. For the first time, ORMAS is showcasing products representing all 30 districts of Odisha, providing rural producers with a platform to reach buyers beyond the State.

The exhibition features a diverse range of Odisha’s products, including handlooms, handicrafts, home décor items, accessories, spices and food products. The initiative aims to highlight the distinctive skills, cultural heritage and entrepreneurial potential of rural communities across the State.

Beyond product promotion, the participation is focused on creating sustainable market opportunities for artisans, producers and rural entrepreneurs. By bringing them closer to national and international buyers, traders and exporters, the platform is expected to strengthen business-to-business (B2B) connections and facilitate direct market linkages.

The initiative also seeks to create new avenues for exports, helping Odisha’s rural enterprises move beyond traditional local markets. Greater exposure to institutional buyers and international markets can provide producers with insights into evolving consumer preferences, quality expectations, packaging requirements and opportunities for scaling their businesses.

The participation of all 30 districts also underscores the diversity of Odisha’s rural economy. From traditional handwoven products and indigenous crafts to food, spices and contemporary lifestyle products, the showcase reflects the breadth of enterprises emerging from the State’s rural communities.

The State’s push to connect local producers with larger markets is expected to strengthen rural livelihoods while preserving traditional skills and encouraging entrepreneurship. With improved market access, stronger B2B partnerships and greater export visibility, Odisha is positioning its local products for a larger role in the national and global marketplace.

The Bharatiya Vyapar Mahotsav 2026 thus provides an important opportunity for Odisha to demonstrate how rural enterprise, traditional knowledge and modern market linkages can work together to create sustainable economic opportunities and give the State’s local products the recognition they deserve.
