Lucknow, Aug 25: Women-led enterprises under Uttar Pradesh’s Self-Help Group network are making a strong impact on the state’s rural economy, with five companies reporting a combined business turnover of around ₹5,716 crore since 2019.
More than 3.88 lakh women are associated with these companies, which collectively collect around 12.5 lakh litres of milk every day. Their operations now cover more than 6,500 villages across 31 districts.
The companies are helping women move beyond traditional livestock rearing by connecting them with organised milk collection, processing, marketing and business activities. This is creating new income opportunities while strengthening the wider rural supply chain.
The model is also supporting local employment and economic activity, as dairy production generates demand for transportation, animal feed, veterinary services and other allied businesses.
With plans to expand the network further, the initiative highlights the growing role of women entrepreneurs in transforming rural livelihoods and building stronger village economies.
