We are in an era of unprecedented business growth. With the ability to go viral and scale up overnight the need for a strong flexible network is essential. This has led to the growth of cloud networking. These networks are easily scalable and cost efficient which helps companies maximize profit margin.
Behind any good cloud network is Kubernetes, an open source container management platform. Ajay Chhabria, who majored in computer networks at Northeastern University has dedicated himself to learning about and implementing Kubernetes (K8s). While it is easy to get lost in the technical aspects of what K8s offers, Chhabria describes it in terms we can all understand.
“Think of Kubernetes as a smart manager for your apps,” he begins. “Imagine you have a bunch of workers (apps) doing different jobs on many computers. Kubernetes tells these workers where to go, makes sure they have what they need, and keeps an eye on them to ensure they’re working correctly.” It even has the ability to fix bugs on the run, “If one worker fails, Kubernetes quickly replaces it with another to keep things running smoothly”
What cloud networks and K8s provide is a way to easily handle any increases in traffic and helps maintain cost efficiency. By negating the need for bulky and cost preventative hardware, cloud networks reduce operational costs. “Without the on-premise hardware the cost of maintenance is drastically reduced.”
However, it is the use of resources that help a burgeoning business the most. “By only using what is needed, scaling up during peak hours and throttling resources at low times, it ensures businesses only pay for what they use.”
Kubernetes plays a crucial role in how cloud networks handle spikes in activity. “Through automation of tasks such as service discovery, load balancing and traffic routing, K8s ensures maximum efficiency regardless of surges,” details Chhabria. Without worries regarding network performance, the creatives have been freed up to focus on innovation rather than infrastructure management.
With seamless blending between public, private and hybrid cloud infrastructures, Kubernetes makes your applications available to your business no matter where you are. The project manager points to this as a key factor, “as the workplace environment has rapidly changed from in office to a more hybrid feel.”
“But when it comes down to it the biggest benefit is efficiency in all areas,” says Chhabria. His work sees him focus on optimization in order to improve results on all fronts. With that in mind, having a functional platform that runs smoothly no matter the traffic can only benefit your company.
Add to that the security backing of Kubernetes which is increasingly incorporating zero trust principles. “This will provide encryption for all incoming and outgoing traffic, and emphasize strong identity verification,” details Chhabria. Providing your business’ cloud network with a solid cyber security framework and taking another task off your hands.
Throughout his career Ajay Chhabria has experienced the shift in computer networks. From his time at Northeastern where he studied them, to his current job as a product manager at Oracle. He notes the ever decreasing need for physically built out networks, which helps to save space and decrease operational cost. Most importantly he sees opportunity for businesses. “Now more than ever anyone has the ability to create something amazing. Overnight successes are possible thanks to Kubernetes ability to scale up without sacrificing performance.”
The future remains bright and ever more global. However, right now the excitement is brimming, the possibilities seem endless. Never before have we seen such access to unlimited growth. No longer shackled by server rooms and security issues, now is the time for success.
