Uber Expands Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives to Foster Equal Opportunity for Students with Disabilities

New Delhi, April 2023 – Uber, India’s leading mobility platform today, announced the expansion of its She++ initiative to promote diversity and inclusion beyond binary gender. She++ was launched in 2019 to provide early-in-career opportunities for women to intern with Uber’s engineering teams, network with business leaders, and get a glimpse into what a career in technology looks like. This year, Uber is expanding the initiative to include people with disabilities, reflecting Uber’s commitment to equity.

Uber has seen a significant increase in the number of applications since the initiative began. This year, She++ has received over 2,000 applications from top engineering colleges across India, indicating the growing demand for diversity and inclusivity in the workforce. The event held on March 30th at the Uber campus in Hyderabad, provided students with opportunities to network with Uber business leaders, and HR professionals, giving them insights into the world of technology.

Ritika Khullar, Head of Diversity Equity & Inclusion, Uber APAC, said, “According to WHO, around 16% of the world’s population experiences a significant disability, and creating equity and access for them is key to our mission. The response received for the She++ initiative in India this year makes us optimistic. We anticipate more reach and involvement as we continue to make progress and expand this initiative. At Uber, we are focused on breaking down barriers, establishing best practices, and enhancing leadership knowledge to better serve our communities by creating equitability via accessibility, and the inclusion of students with disabilities in the She++ initiative demonstrates our commitment to creating a workplace where everyone can thrive.”

The She++ initiative reflects Uber’s core values of promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion. By expanding the initiative beyond gender, Uber is taking an important step towards creating a more inclusive workplace and society, reinforcing Uber’s commitment to talent, and doing the right thing
