Amazon gets ready for the festive season, announces major network expansion with the launch of 12 new fulfillment centers and 6 new sort centers

Hyderabad| August 29: Ahead of the upcoming festive season, Amazon today announced a major expansion of its operations network with the launch of 12 new fulfillment centers (FCs) and expansion of 6 FCs. This expansion adds a combined 8.6 million cubic feet of incremental storage capacity which is the equivalent of 100 Olympic-sized swimming pools. This expansion brings the first Amazon FC to five cities including Hooghly, Tiruvallur, Krishnagiri, Visakhapatnam and Hubballi. The company also announced the launch of six new sort centers (SCs) in Hubli, Trivandrum, Rajpura, Gorakhpur, Moradabad and Prayagraj with a combined area of 500K sq. feet. This builds on Amazon’s launch in June this year of 5 fulfillment centers and over 30 last mile delivery stations, further strengthening what is already one of India’s most advanced e-commerce networks. The new sites will be operated and managed by strategic partners who are leaders in the logistics industry and will significantly boost delivery speeds for customers across the country.

The expansion will help sellers better serve customers by placing selection closer to them and is expected to create thousands of new work opportunities that will provide economic benefits to the region. These opportunities include a variety of roles in Amazon’s operations network, including full-time and part-time options (such as Fulfilment and Sortation Associates, Team Leads, Process Assistants, etc.). All of these new buildings are ready and operational ahead of the upcoming festive season.

“As India gets ready for the festive season, we are readying ourselves to enable sellers to serve customers across the country. The 12 new fulfilment centers and 6 new sort centers will significantly boost our ability to provide customers across the country, the fastest, safest and more reliable deliveries. Our long-term focus remains on building and managing one of India’s leading logistics networks, focused on speed, safety, and reliability” that reaches customers in every single pin-code across India.” said Abhinav Singh, VP Operations India & Australia at Amazon.

Recently, Amazon had announced the launch of five new FCs in Delhi NCR, Indore, Bhubaneshwar, Kochi and Rajpura as well as more than 30 new last mile delivery stations in cities like Panchkula, Nagpur, Hubli, Mohali, Howrah, and Indore among others. Earlier in 2025, Amazon had announced an additional INR 2000 crore in investment as part of its commitment to building and operating one of India’s fastest, safest, and most reliable operations network. The investment will be used to expand and upgrade operations infrastructure, improve associate safety and well-being programs, and develop new tools and technology for its fulfillment network. This new investment builds on top of Amazon’s investments in creating an operations network that helps the company deliver to all serviceable pin-codes across India.
