Srinagar, June 2: The Jammu and Kashmir government has emphasised the need to strengthen the reach of AYUSH healthcare services while promoting the region as a major destination for wellness tourism, officials said.
The focus is on expanding access to traditional systems of medicine, including Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy, particularly in rural and remote areas where healthcare accessibility remains a priority.
Officials said efforts are being made to integrate AYUSH services more effectively into the public health system, with an emphasis on preventive healthcare, holistic wellness, and community-based health awareness programmes.
The government also highlighted the potential of wellness tourism in Jammu and Kashmir, given the region’s natural beauty, climate, and traditional healing practices. Plans include developing wellness centres, promoting yoga retreats, and encouraging private participation in the sector.
Authorities noted that strengthening AYUSH infrastructure could not only improve healthcare delivery but also create new employment opportunities and boost local tourism-based livelihoods.
The initiative is part of a broader strategy to position Jammu and Kashmir as a leading hub for health and wellness tourism in the country while improving overall public health outcomes.
