New Delhi, June 12: The Government of India, along with the states of Assam and Nagaland, has signed a tripartite agreement aimed at accelerating oil and natural gas exploration activities in the region.
The agreement is expected to strengthen coordination between the Centre and state governments to facilitate smoother implementation of exploration projects, improve regulatory efficiency, and unlock the hydrocarbon potential of the Northeast.
Officials said the initiative will help enhance energy security, attract investment in the upstream oil and gas sector, and support infrastructure development in resource-rich areas.
The collaboration is also expected to promote employment opportunities and economic growth in the region through increased exploration and related industrial activity.
The move aligns with India’s broader strategy to expand domestic energy production and reduce import dependence by tapping underexplored hydrocarbon reserves.
Authorities noted that the partnership will focus on improving operational clarity, enabling faster approvals, and encouraging greater participation from energy companies.
