Sony SAB artists share heartfelt memories of their first paychecks and how they spent it

Mumbai, November 16, 2024: One thing an individual never forgets is the first step into their profession, when they start earning and receive their pehli kamai, their first paycheck. It’s a memorable moment filled with pride, responsibility, and a sense of independence. Sony SAB actors recently shared their cherished memories, reflecting on the journey, sacrifices, and joy tied to their very first earnings. From Sooraj Thapar’s early days in the fast-food industry to Aakash Ahuja and Gaurav Sharma’s unique experiences, these stories reveal the hard work that paved their path in the entertainment world.

Aakash Ahuja who portrays the character of Rajat Khanna in Badall Pe Paon Hai, said, “My first paycheck came in 2011 for a commercial I did for chewing gum brand. I was paid 5,000 rupees, and it felt like such an achievement. Without a second thought, I handed it over to my parents and they were so happy. It’s a moment I’ll never forget, not just for the money, but for the first opportunity to earn my own money.”

Sooraj Thapar, who portrays the character of Bishan Khanna in Badall Pe Paon Hai, said, “My first paycheck came right after finishing school and college when I started working at an American fast-food place around 1984-1985. My role was as a trainee supervisor on the pastry counter, with a salary of 500 rupees. Over time, I was promoted, eventually becoming Assistant Manager at their branch in Mumbai. But that first paycheck of 500 rupees was special. I gave it to my mom, who was so proud. She made halwa that day to celebrate, and we all enjoyed it together.”

Gaurav Sharma who portrays the character of Maahir Dhillon in Badall Pe Paon Hai, said, “With my first acting paycheck, I decided to surprise my mom with a saree in her favorite color. She was so emotional and proud, it was a beautiful moment. But she was a little upset, too, as she wanted me to buy something for myself instead. “

Jayesh Bharbhaya who portrays the character of Bapodra in Pushpa Impossible, said, “When I received my first payment from acting, I was over the moon! Growing up, we didn’t have a television at home, so watching shows or dreaming about being on screen felt distant. With that first paycheck, I wanted to bring something meaningful into our lives, so I decided to buy a TV on loan. Setting it up at home felt incredibly fulfilling—a proud moment, not just for me but for my entire family. Watching shows together while knowing how hard I had worked to get this television was one of the memories I will always cherish.”
