Haryana to Begin Smart Meter Installation Work from August 31

Chandigarh, June 2: The Haryana government is set to begin large-scale smart metering work across the state from August 31, marking a key step toward modernising the power distribution system and improving billing efficiency.

The initiative aims to replace conventional electricity meters with smart meters, enabling real-time monitoring of power consumption, reduced billing errors, and improved transparency in electricity usage for consumers.

Officials said the rollout will be implemented in phases across urban and rural areas, with priority given to high-load and high-loss regions to improve overall efficiency in the power sector.

The smart metering system is expected to benefit both consumers and utilities by providing accurate usage data, enabling better demand management, and reducing power theft and operational losses.

Authorities also highlighted that the project will support faster grievance redressal and allow consumers to track their electricity usage more effectively through digital platforms.

The initiative is part of the state’s broader push toward digital infrastructure in the power sector and improved service delivery in utilities.
