Utah has many licenses for contractors, these include Building, Engineering or Commercial work, but the state also offers licenses for specific trade. Specific licenses are required for electricians and these are for Journeyman and Master Utah Electrical license.

16 hours of continuing education is required each licensing period prior to renewal. Utah has reciprocity agreements for Journeyman with Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, and Oregon. They have reciprocity at the Master level for Idaho, Oregon, and Wyoming.

Master Electrician

In addition to passing the Electrical Code, Electrical Theory, and Electrician Practical exams, applicants must also have four years of experience as a licensed Journeyman Electrician or a two years AAS degree from a properly accredited electrical trade school AND 2 years’ experience as a licensed Journeyman Electrician. Alternatively, a BS degree in electrical engineering from an EAC/ABET accredited school AND one years of licensed experience

  • Journeyman Electrician license holders do not need to retake the practical exam
