Kolkata, 16th June,2025: WWF, Kolkata marked World Environment Day on the 5th of June 2025 with a powerful collaboration with ESEDS School of Design at Techno India University – West Bengal, bringing together creativity, advocacy, and action to spotlight environmental consciousness & plastic waste through design.
The event was graced by Chief Guest, Dr. Andrew Fleming, British Deputy High Commissioner in Kolkata – East & North East India, and Ms. Sangita Mitra, Director of WWF-India (West Bengal State Office), who applauded the institution’s efforts in combining design education with sustainability. Special Guest Mrs. Banani Kakkar, Chairperson, State Advisory Board, WWW India & Founder – President of People United for Better Living in Kolkata (PUBLIC) also shared a powerful message for the Event.
A major highlight of the celebration was the unveiling of the “Design for Life” exhibition Showcasing Student Innovation through Designs with Plastics & E Waste and exploring sustainability through fashion and interiors. The exhibition featured two innovative collections:
- One created entirely from e-waste, where students turned discarded electronics into expressive, wearable pieces.
- The second featured up Accompanying installations offered immersive visual narratives that brought environmental issues to life through the lens of creative design.
ESEDS at TIU Pledges Plastic-Free Campus Initiative
In a landmark move, ESEDS at TIU used the occasion to formally pledge to become a plastic-free campus — a tangible step toward its broader mission of cultivating climate-responsible design practices within its learning environment.
A Shared Vision for the Future
World Environment Day for ESEDS at TIU went beyond celebration — it became a living example of how design can drive impactful change. The collaboration with WWF- West Bengal underlines the school’s commitment to aligning creativity with climate-conscious action, paving the way for the next generation of responsible designers.
