IIT Roorkee Partners with NAMTECH to Revolutionize Engineering Education

Roorkee, Uttarakhand, 21 November 2024 – The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) and the New Age Makers’ Institute of Technology (NAMTECH) have entered into a strategic collaboration to advance experiential learning for engineering graduates, responding to the growing needs of India’s manufacturing and core engineering sectors. The NAMTECH was established jointly by the eminent ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel India as a CSR Initiative. Through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU), both institutions aim to foster educational reforms that align academic programs with the evolving industry landscape.

The MoU was signed by Prof. Akshay Dvivedi, Dean, Sponsored Research & Industrial Consultancy, IIT Roorkee, and Mr. Arunkumar Pillai, Director General, NAMTECH. The MoU signing ceremony was held at IIT Roorkee and witnessed the presence of dignitaries from both institutions, including Prof. K. K. Pant, Director, IIT Roorkee, Prof. Andallib Tariq, Head, MIED, Dr. Gauri Trivedi, Board Member, NAMTECH, Advisor to Sanskardham and former IAS, Mr. Sanjay Sharma, Board Member, NAMTECH, Global Vice President at ArcelorMittal, Prof. Sai Ramudu Meka, Associate Dean, Corporate Interactions, Heads of several departments at IIT Roorkee, and Dr. Ibrahim Hafeezur Rehman, Director, School of Sustainability, NAMTECH.

Prof. K. K. Prof. Andallib Tariq, Head of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, emphasized the importance of future-ready skills and advocated for proactive industry-academia partnerships to enhance professional education through experiential learning. The event was seamlessly coordinated under his leadership.

IIT Roorkee and NAMTECH are partnering to advance training, research, and industry engagement in advanced manufacturing and sustainability. By combining their expertise and resources, the two institutions are poised to drive innovation, foster talent development, and contribute to a more sustainable and prosperous future for India. IIT Roorkee students will gain practical experience through NAMTECH’s Industrial Professional Engagement Program, with potential internship opportunities for NAMTECH students at IIT Roorkee as well. Joint research projects, faculty development programs, and executive programs for industry professionals will foster innovation and knowledge exchange. This partnership will also strengthen industry-academia ties, facilitating increased collaboration and knowledge exchange between IIT Roorkee and industry partners. Additionally, it will promote sustainable manufacturing practices, contributing to India’s commitment to a sustainable future.
