VIT Bhopal Continues to Empower Rural Students Through STARS Program

Sehore, Madhya Pradesh, June 3: VIT Bhopal University’s flagship STARS Scheme continues to demonstrate the transformative power of inclusive education, with consistently high placement rates for graduating cohorts of rural students from across Madhya Pradesh. The initiative, which provides fully funded higher education opportunities to meritorious students from government schools, has emerged as a benchmark for educational empowerment and social mobility.

Placement outcomes under the scheme reflect its sustained success. The 2019-23 batch achieved a 100% placement rate with all registered students securing employment, while the 2020-24 batch recorded a placement rate of 94.74%. The 2021-25 batch achieved 86% placements and the ongoing 2022-26 batch has already reached 95% placements, highlighting the strong industry readiness and career outcomes being delivered through the programme.

Launched in Madhya Pradesh in 2019 under the vision of Chancellor, VIT Bhopal, Dr. G. Viswanathan, the STARS Scheme was conceptualized to ensure that talented students from rural and economically disadvantaged backgrounds are not denied access to quality higher education due to financial constraints. The initiative was subsequently expanded across all districts of Madhya Pradesh under the guidance of Ms. Kadhambari S. Viswanathan, Assistant Vice President, VIT Bhopal, after assessing the educational and socio-economic challenges faced by rural communities across the state.

Under the scheme, the first district topper boy and girl from every district of Madhya Pradesh are eligible for complete educational support, provided they have completed Classes 10 and 12 from government schools in the state. Students from diverse academic streams, including science, commerce, arts, and business mathematics, are eligible to apply.

Speaking about the impact of the initiative, Ms. Kadhambari S. Viswanathan, Assistant Vice President, VIT Bhopal University, said,

“The STARS Scheme is built on a simple yet powerful belief that talent exists in every corner of our society and deserves an equal opportunity to flourish. Every year, we witness remarkable journeys of students who overcome significant socio-economic challenges and go on to build successful careers. Their achievements reaffirm our commitment to making quality higher education accessible, inclusive, and transformative. Through STARS, we are not only supporting individual students but also contributing to the long-term development of families, communities, and the state.”

The scheme offers comprehensive support to deserving students, including a 100% tuition fee waiver, free hostel accommodation, free mess facilities, healthcare support, mentorship, and access to professional education programmes. Through this holistic model, VIT Bhopal has enabled hundreds of first-generation learners, children of farmers, daily wage workers, and economically vulnerable families to pursue engineering and postgraduate studies while building pathways to successful careers.

For the 2026 academic session, counselling will be conducted in two phases. The first phase will invite students securing first and second ranks in their respective districts, while the second phase will accommodate third and fourth rank holders subject to seat availability. The first counselling round is expected to be held in the second week of June 2026.
