Centre to Review Concerns of Maharashtra Onion Farmers and Sugar Cooperatives

New Delhi, May 26: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to chair a high-level meeting to review the challenges being faced by onion growers and sugar cooperatives in Maharashtra, according to official sources.

The meeting comes amid concerns raised by stakeholders over price fluctuations, production pressures, and operational challenges affecting the onion and sugar sectors, which are key components of the state’s rural economy.

Officials said the discussions will focus on assessing the current situation in the agricultural and cooperative sectors, including issues related to market stability, farmer income, and the functioning of sugar cooperatives.

The review is also expected to explore possible policy and administrative measures to support farmers and strengthen cooperative institutions, which play a significant role in Maharashtra’s agri-based economy.

The move highlights the government’s continued engagement with sector-specific challenges and its focus on ensuring stability and support for farmers and allied industries.
