New Delhi, May 28: The Government on Wednesday launched the “Mission Queen Pineapple, Tripura” project with an investment of Rs 236 crore to strengthen pineapple farming and improve farmer incomes in the state.

The three-year initiative aims to enhance cultivation, processing, branding, and exports of Tripura’s GI-tagged Queen Pineapple, which is known for its sweetness, aroma, and premium quality.

Officials said the project will help farmers earn better prices by expanding access to processing and export markets. While growers currently earn Rs 6–10 per kg at the farm level, export-grade and processed pineapples can fetch between Rs 80 and Rs 150 per kg in domestic and international markets.

The mission is also expected to create employment opportunities and strengthen Tripura’s position in the global pineapple trade.
