World Health Day 2025: Championing Universal Healthcare and Holistic Well-being

World Health Day 2025: A Call for Universal Healthcare and Holistic Wellness

As the world marks World Health Day 2025, it’s a moment to reflect on the importance of universal healthcare access, preventive care, and holistic well-being. In today’s rapidly evolving healthcare landscape, the focus extends beyond medical treatments; it’s about envisioning a healthier future, overcoming systemic challenges, and making a lasting impact on global well-being. On this occasion please find below the quote of Mr. Sony Thomas Varghese, Executive Director of CBM India

Mr. Sony Thomas, Executive Director of CBM India: “This World Health Day, the theme ‘Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures’ underscores the urgent need for equitable maternal and newborn healthcare. Every child deserves a healthy start, and every mother should have access to quality care, regardless of socio-economic status, disability or geography. Yet, for millions, these fundamental rights remain out of reach.

According to the UN MMEIG 2020 report, India’s Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) has seen a remarkable decline from 384 in 2000 to 103 in 2020, outpacing the global average reduction. While this progress is commendable, disparities persist, particularly for marginalised communities, including women and children with disabilities. Now is the time to intensify our efforts. At CBM India, we are committed to dismantling barriers and ensuring that inclusive, accessible and high-quality healthcare reaches those who need it most.

By addressing healthcare inequities and advocating for stronger policies, we can build a future where no mother or child is left behind. This World Health Day is a call to action, reminding us that health is not a privilege but a fundamental right. Through collaboration, innovation and unwavering dedication, we can create a world where every individual has the opportunity to thrive from the very start of life. Together, let’s turn healthy beginnings into hopeful futures for all.”
