NTPC Marks Energy Conservation Day with a Roadmap to Achieve Net Zero Goals

New Delhi, 18th Dec 2024: On the occasion of National Energy Conservation Day-2024, NTPC, India’s largest power utility, reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to energy efficiency, sustainability, and environmental stewardship. With an integrated approach to achieving Net Zero Energy, Water, and Waste across its operations, NTPC continues to lead by example in adopting innovative and sustainable practices.

To extend its sustainability efforts, NTPC has partnered with USAID through an MoU signed on September 5, 2024 to develop and implement a detailed roadmap for achieving Net Zero status. This visionary roadmap includes ambitious targets to:

  • Transform townships and offices into Net Zero Energy, Water, and Waste facilities.
  • Implement cutting-edge technologies and sustainable practices for resource optimization.
  • Promote awareness and build capacity amongst employees and residents to foster a culture of sustainability.

The partnership between NTPC and USAID has led to significant achievements in sustainability:

  • NTPC Kudgi STPS township is India’s first township to achieve IGBC Net Zero Energy certification reflecting its unwavering focus on reducing energy consumption and optimizing renewable energy usage.
  • NTPC RGPPL Ratnagiri township is India’s first to achieve IGBC Net Zero Water certifications showcasing leadership in water management
  • NTPC’s state-of-the-art research and development center, NETRA, has been awarded the IGBC Net Zero Energy certification underscoring NTPC’s dedication to integrating sustainable practices into its core research facilities.
  • Efforts are underway at NTPC Khargone Township to secure the IGBC Net Zero Waste certification, demonstrating NTPC’s comprehensive approach to waste management and its aspiration to achieve zero waste to landfill.
