Bhubaneswar, November 7, 2024: The government of Odisha has announced plans to construct the Odia Asmita Bhavan in front of the Akshara Bhoomi complex in Bhubaneswar. The new cultural hub will celebrate the rich heritage and pride of Odisha, showcasing the essence of Odia identity. The development of this “Odia Asmita” (Odia Pride) house is expected to highlight the state’s cultural and historical significance on the national stage.
The construction of the Odia Asmita Bhavan is set to become a reality after years of planning and promises made by the government. Surya Banshi Suraj, Odisha’s Minister for Language, Literature, and Culture, emphasized that this project will be an important milestone for the state. The Bhavan will be a space dedicated to honoring the cultural legacy, language, literature, and traditions of Odisha, aiming to inspire future generations.
The foundation stone for the project is expected to be laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Odisha on November 15, 2024. The government has resolved the previous land disputes surrounding the Akshara Bhoomi area, securing approximately 4.5 acres of land for the project.
The Odia Asmita Bhavan will be a grand structure, with 360-degree exhibits showcasing Odisha’s art, culture, and history. The Bhavan will have 4 to 5 floors, featuring spaces for exhibitions, cultural programs, and a permanent collection of information about Odisha’s legacy. Visitors will be able to learn in-depth about Odisha’s unique traditions and its significant contributions to India’s cultural landscape.
This ambitious project marks a significant step towards preserving and promoting the cultural identity of Odisha and strengthening the pride of Odia people across the world. It is expected to become a major cultural landmark, drawing tourists and enthusiasts keen to explore the state’s rich heritage.
