Mumbai, 28 August 2025: LIC Housing Finance Ltd. (LIC HFL) announced yesterday the launch of the “Sanjeevani – Blood Group Registry App” at Aarogya Bhavan, St. George’s Hospital Compound, Mumbai. This is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) program. The CM Jan Kalyan Kaksha of the Government of Maharashtra and the Wockhardt Foundation worked together to create the program. It is part of the State’s overall CSR effort to improve healthcare systems, increase transparency, and meet important social needs.
The app was inaugurated by Shri Prakashrao Abitkar, Hon’ble Minister of Public Health & Family Welfare, Government of Maharashtra, in the presence of senior dignitaries, representatives from LIC HFL, and officials from the State Blood Transfusion Council (SBTC). The strong endorsement and involvement of the State Government and SBTC will ensure state-wide adoption of the app across all blood banks.
Transforming Maharashtra’s Blood Donation Ecosystem
The LIC HFL sponsored Sanjeevani App has been designed to address persistent challenges in the blood donation and distribution system by:
- Creating a robust registry of donors aged 18–65.
- Offering real-time demand and supply visibility to minimize shortages.
- Reducing mismatches in blood transfusions and curbing wastage of blood units.
- Facilitating transparent and efficient communication between donors, blood banks, and hospitals.
- Reaching an estimated 6 crore beneficiaries across Maharashtra over three years.
The project has been sanctioned under LIC HFL’s CSR funds for FY 2023-24, approved by the 47th Board CSR Committee. Implementation began on April 1, 2024, and will continue until March 31, 2027. The first tranche was disbursed in November 2024, with subsequent disbursements linked to milestone achievements and beneficiary outreach targets. The initiative is expected to directly benefit 2 crore individuals annually across Maharashtra.
The launch of the app comes ahead of the festive season of Ganesh Chaturthi – a period of heightened community activity and outreach. LIC HFL, along with its partners, will roll out awareness campaigns leveraging colleges, National Service Scheme (NSS) units, and the Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension (DLLE) networks to encourage blood donations and drive adoption of the app.
