Thiruvananthapuram, April 14: Kims Health Cancer Centre recently celebrated a major milestone in pediatric hematology: the successful Matched Unrelated Donor (MUD) Bone Marrow Transplant of 9-year-old S B Sripranav.

Sripranav, who was battling Very Severe Aplastic Anemia, faced the daunting challenge of not having a matching donor within his family. In a high-end medical procedure, specialists performed a MUD transplant—a life-saving technique that relies on finding a perfect genetic match from an unrelated volunteer donor.
Dr. Ashwin V Nair, Associate Consultant and Coordinator of Clinical Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplant, led the multidisciplinary team through the complex procedure. To honor his incredible resilience, the hospital presented the 9-year-old with a “Certificate of Courage,” officially naming him a “Little Superhero.”
In addition to celebrating this clinical victory, the Centre also hosted a Free Awareness Seminar for Myeloma Patients and Their Families at Osler Hall, providing essential education on treatment protocols and emotional support for those navigating a Myeloma diagnosis.
