Mumbai, May 13: Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. (TMPV), one of India’s leading automobile manufacturers, today announced the launch of the Altroz iCNG AMT, making it India’s first and only premium hatchback to offer an automated manual transmission (AMT) with a factory-fitted CNG powertrain.
The launch further strengthens the Altroz brand’s “Feel Special” positioning by combining the efficiency of CNG with the convenience of automatic driving, while continuing to expand Tata Motors’ multi-powertrain strategy in the premium hatchback segment.
Speaking on the launch, Mr. Vivek Srivatsa, Chief Commercial Officer, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd., said the Altroz has consistently set benchmarks in design, safety, and powertrain flexibility. He added that rising CNG adoption across India, including newer markets beyond traditional strongholds, reflects a clear shift in consumer preference toward cleaner and more efficient mobility solutions.
He further noted that the introduction of AMT in the iCNG lineup addresses a growing customer need for convenience in CNG vehicles, making the Altroz one of the most versatile offerings in its category without compromising on space, safety, or driving comfort.
The Altroz iCNG AMT is powered by the 1.2L Revotron engine and features Tata Motors’ twin-cylinder iCNG technology, which ensures optimal boot space while maintaining practicality. The system enables smooth switching between fuel modes and is designed to deliver consistent performance across varied driving conditions, including city traffic and long-distance travel.
The model continues to feature Tata Motors’ emphasis on safety and structural integrity, being built on the ALFA architecture with ultra-high-strength steel. It retains its 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating across fuel variants and comes equipped with six airbags, electronic stability program (ESP), ISOFIX child seat mounts, and advanced driver assistance features such as a 360-degree camera system and tyre pressure monitoring system.
On the design and comfort front, the Altroz iCNG AMT carries forward the premium styling of the Altroz lineup, featuring LED lighting elements, a connected design language, and a refined interior layout with dual digital screens, ambient lighting, and enhanced cabin ergonomics.
