Kathmandu, May 13: The 2026 spring climbing season on Mount Everest has officially begun, with 11 Sherpa guides successfully reaching the summit in the early phase of expeditions, marking the start of high-altitude activity on the world’s highest peak.
The successful ascent comes as Nepal opens its seasonal climbing window, allowing expedition teams from around the world to begin summit attempts under improving weather conditions.
Authorities have stepped up coordination and safety protocols along the standard routes, as multiple international teams prepare for their own summit pushes in the coming weeks, depending on weather stability and acclimatisation schedules.
