From Financial Constraints to Global Opportunities: How Studies In Overseas (SIO) Is Making International Education More Accessible

 Studies In Overseas

For many Indian students, studying abroad represents more than an academic achievement. It is an opportunity to build a global career, improve their financial prospects, and create a better future for themselves and their families. However, the high cost of international education often makes this dream seem unattainable, particularly for students from middle-class and lower-middle-class backgrounds.

Studies In Overseas (SIO), an overseas education consultancy, aims to bridge this gap by helping students explore international education opportunities, scholarships, and education financing options.

A Chance Encounter That Changed a Life

Rahul grew up in a modest household. His father worked in a factory, while his mother managed the home. An average student during his school years, Rahul nevertheless harboured ambitious dreams. He aspired to own a beautiful home, drive a luxury car, and build a financially secure life.

Yet, like many young Indians, he was concerned about the financial limitations that could stand in the way of his ambitions. He believed that achieving his desired lifestyle through a conventional career in India might take decades, and even then, success was not guaranteed.

His perspective began to change during an ordinary journey when he found himself seated next to Mr Richard, Director of Studies In Overseas (SIO). What began as a casual conversation soon turned into an exchange that would introduce Rahul to a world of possibilities.

Mr Richard explained how SIO helps students pursue higher education in countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Italy, and Germany.

Intrigued, Rahul asked the question that mattered most to him: could he study abroad without having to pay substantial tuition fees?

Italy: An Opportunity Beyond Financial Barriers

Understanding Rahul’s financial concerns, Mr Richard introduced him to scholarship opportunities in Italy and Germany, where eligible international students may qualify for substantial tuition-fee waivers, including scholarships covering the full tuition fee.

He also explained that Italy offers regional and need-based scholarship programmes of around Rs. 7 lakhs annually that may provide eligible students with financial assistance towards living expenses, accommodation, and meals, depending on the scheme and the student’s eligibility.

For Rahul, this information was a revelation. Studying abroad no longer seemed like a privilege reserved exclusively for wealthy families. It was a possibility worth exploring.

Mr Richard further explained that, subject to the applicable immigration rules, graduates may be eligible for a post-study work permit of one year that allows them to seek employment or work in Italy after completing their studies.

For the first time, Rahul could envision a practical route towards international education and a global career.

Addressing the Biggest Challenge: Financing the Journey

As Rahul became increasingly interested, he began asking more practical questions. What would SIO charge for its consultancy services? How much money would he need to demonstrate for his visa application? And how could someone from a financially modest background arrange the necessary funds?

Mr Richard explained that SIO’s consultancy fee was ₹2 lakh, payable in two instalments: ₹50,000 at the application stage and the remaining ₹1.5 lakh after receiving the offer letter, in accordance with the agreed process.

He also explained that students might need to demonstrate sufficient financial resources to meet visa requirements. In Rahul’s illustrative case, the amount discussed was approximately ₹23 lakh for two years of living expenses, subject to the applicable visa requirements and the student’s individual circumstances.

The figures left Rahul disheartened. Although he could now see a path to studying abroad, arranging such a substantial amount seemed impossible.

Recognising this concern, Mr Richard introduced him to another potential avenue: education financing.

Education Financing: Turning Possibility into a Plan

Mr Richard informed Rahul that SIO had a special arrangement with Credila, a non-banking financial company (NBFC), through which eligible students could explore education loans of up to ₹25 lakh.

He also explained that, under the arrangement described to Rahul, a portion of the sanctioned loan—potentially 10% of the loan amount—could be disbursed before the visa process was completed, subject to the lender’s terms and approval.

This information gave Rahul renewed hope. Instead of viewing his financial limitations as an insurmountable obstacle, he could begin exploring a structured way to finance his education.

The possibility of combining scholarship opportunities with education financing transformed what had once seemed like an unattainable dream into a plan he could pursue.

From Aspiration to Achievement

In this account, Rahul eventually completed his education in Italy and went on to earn a salary in euros. The chance meeting with Mr Richard became a turning point in his journey, introducing him to opportunities he had not previously considered.

His story reflects a wider challenge faced by aspiring international students: talent and ambition are not always enough when financial constraints limit access to education. Timely guidance, awareness of scholarships, and access to suitable financing options can play an important role in helping students explore alternative pathways to their goals.

For SIO, the objective extends beyond helping students secure university admissions. It is also about making international education more accessible to Indian families who may otherwise believe that studying abroad is beyond their financial reach.

Seven Years of SIO: A Commitment to Wider Access

As Studies In Overseas (SIO) marks its seventh anniversary, the organisation is reaffirming its commitment to expanding access to international education.

To commemorate the milestone, SIO has announced the SIO Nikhil-Dipti Scholarship, offering a scholarship of ₹25,000 to every student applying to study in Italy, as per the programme’s applicable terms and eligibility criteria.

The initiative is intended to encourage more students to explore international academic opportunities and take their first steps towards building global careers.

For countless aspiring students, the biggest barrier to studying abroad may not be a lack of ambition, but a lack of information about the opportunities available to them.

Through scholarship awareness, personalised guidance, and education-financing options, Studies In Overseas hopes to help bridge that gap—one student, one opportunity, and one future at a time.
