Fuel Shortage Hits Rourkela; Petrol Pumps Impose Purchase Limits

Rourkela, May 12 (BNP): A fuel shortage situation has emerged in Rourkela, causing inconvenience to commuters and vehicle owners as several petrol pumps across the city have started imposing limits on fuel purchases amid declining stock availability.

Long queues of vehicles were witnessed at multiple filling stations as residents rushed to refill petrol and diesel fearing a prolonged shortage. Many petrol pumps reportedly restricted fuel supply for two-wheelers and four-wheelers in order to manage the available stock and ensure distribution among a larger number of customers.

Sources said the shortage was triggered due to disruptions in fuel transportation and delayed supply from depots, leading to reduced availability at several outlets. In many areas, two-wheelers were reportedly being provided fuel worth only a limited amount, while commercial vehicle operators also expressed concern over the situation.

The sudden scarcity has affected daily commuters, transport services, small businesses, and logistics operations in the steel city. Office-goers and emergency service operators have urged authorities to restore normal supply at the earliest to avoid further disruption.

Fuel station operators stated that efforts are being made to maintain supply until fresh stock arrives. Meanwhile, district authorities are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with oil companies to normalise fuel distribution across the city.

Residents have been advised against panic buying and unnecessary hoarding of fuel, as officials expressed hope that the supply situation would improve soon.
