A patient-friendly medical breakthrough has taken place at KIMS Hospitals, Thane, where doctors performed an advanced gallbladder removal surgery using only one small cut hidden inside the belly button. The surgery, called Single-Incision Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy (SILC), is a safe and more cosmetic version of traditional keyhole surgery.
The patient, a 41-year-old man from Madhya Pradesh, had been suffering for over a year with severe stomach pain caused by gallstones. These stones had also led to repeated inflammation of his pancreas—a painful and dangerous condition called pancreatitis. After several hospital visits and a lot of discomfort, doctors at KIMS Hospitals Thane advised him to have his gallbladder removed to prevent more such attacks.
However, the patient was worried about having multiple cuts on his stomach, which is normally how gallbladder surgery is done. That’s when Dr. Hemant Jain, a senior gastrointestinal surgeon at KIMS Hospital, Thane, told him about a newer option: a surgery done through just one tiny cut inside the belly button, leaving no visible scars and less pain after the operation.
“This single-cut technique is safe and gives excellent results. It helps patients recover faster, feel less pain, and avoid scars. It’s a perfect mix of modern technology and patient comfort,” said Dr. Hemant Jain.
The surgery went smoothly. The patient felt fine soon after and was able to go home the very next day. Today, he’s doing well and says he’s very happy with the results.
Dr. Jain has done over 500 such surgeries and says this method is also useful for other common operations like appendix removal and hernia repair.
With advanced techniques like SILC, KIMS Hospitals, Thane continues to bring world-class medical care with a personal touch to patients across India.
