The March 2026 report on solo travel destinations found Prague to be the best city in the world for women traveling alone. With more women taking trips by themselves than ever before, a new study by travel gear brand Eminent shows which cities around the world offer the safest and most affordable experiences.
  • Prague is the best city in the world for solo female travelers, with safe streets and more than 4,900 tourist attractions to explore.
  • The cheapest getaway for women traveling alone is Seville, where hotels cost just over $80 per night.
  • Female tourists who love exploring cities on foot will enjoy Madrid, which has the highest walkability score and crime-free neighborhoods.
The research examined over 50 popular destinations, which were rated on tourism factors that matter most to solo female travelers. This included safety perception, women’s peace and security index, walkability, and English proficiency for easier communication. The report also looked at public transport costs, hotel prices, and restaurant rates to measure how affordable each destination is. Cities that combined low crime rates with easy navigation and reasonable prices ranked highest overall.

Prague is the world’s best destination for solo female travelers. The Czech capital has high safety ratings (75/100) and is perfectly walkable, allowing visitors to explore the city entirely on foot without worrying about transportation. A night in Prague costs around $103 on average, less than most Western European capitals, while meals run about $29. The Prague residents also have a high command of English with an 800 proficiency score, so language barriers are rarely a problem for visitors.
2. Quebec City
Quebec City is the second-best destination for women traveling alone. The city posts one of the highest safety ratings at 77.6 points, and nearly every part of it is walkable. This allows women tourists to freely roam around the town even after dark, without worrying about potential troubles. Despite being French-speaking, Quebec residents also have good English proficiency, scoring 800 points like those in Prague. Another advantage of the city is that, even though it’s in North America, hotels here still stay relatively cheap, costing under $150 per night.
3. Singapore
Singapore ranks third among the best cities for solo female travelers. The city-state is one of the safest destinations in the study, and like Prague and Quebec, its neighborhoods are almost entirely walkable (98 points). For those who prefer to use public transport, bus and metro tickets are also cheap, costing just $2.57 per trip. Hotels here average $152 per night, while typical restaurant meals go for around $36, pricier than some Asian neighbors but worth it for the security and convenience.
4. Tokyo
Tokyo comes next. Japan’s capital scores 0.866 on the Women’s Peace and Security Index, which means it’s one of the safest destinations for female tourists. Beyond safety, Tokyo offers more than 10K tourist attractions, including temples, museums, and cultural sites. Solo travelers here will also be able to enjoy Japanese cuisine at relatively low prices, with restaurants charging $22 for typical meals. As for getting around, Tokyo’s walkability score is 82, lower than that of other top cities, so tourists will likely need to use its famous train system, costing only $2.32 per trip.
A travel consultant from Eminent commented on the study:
“As someone in the travel accessories industry, I’d say the best thing solo female travelers can do is pack smart. I always recommend taking a fanny pack with you when you go out and keeping it positioned in front, where you can always see it. Another essential is a portable charger since your phone is your main tool for maps and translations. And speaking of phones, taking an extra one with you is also a good idea. You never know what happens to your main phone, so having a backup can really help in emergencies.”
