Thiruvananthapuram, June 17: A new scientific study by the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB) has found that malaria parasites may exploit young blood cells to evade drug action, offering fresh insights into how the disease persists despite treatment.

The study suggests that immature red blood cells provide a more favourable environment for malaria parasites, allowing them to survive and potentially reduce the effectiveness of anti-malarial drugs. This discovery could help explain why certain infections are harder to eliminate in some patients.

Researchers noted that understanding the interaction between malaria parasites and young blood cells is critical for improving treatment strategies and developing more effective therapeutic approaches.
